VKB Band - The Songs of Tom Waits
The VKB Band welcomes singer-songwriter and guitarist Kirsten Thien for their tour in January 2025.
Kirsten's modern blues sound draws from old-school American soul and roots rock, featuring a dynamic voice that ranges from rich softness to raw power.
She joins Amanda Homi and Rachelle Garniez, whose creative vision maintains the adventurous spirit and irresistible style of the group.
This exciting music project brings together three multi-instrumentalists with their deep love for the music of Tom Waits.
The band name comes from a Woody Allen film and reflects the relationship of three women to one man – in this case, three women interpreting the music of Tom Waits.
In their performances, they particularly aim to highlight the influence of Waits' wife and co-author Kathleen Brennan.
The power trio of celebrated New York artists reinterprets Waits' songs with uplifting vocal harmonies and a variety of instruments such as banjos, accordions, and percussion.
Each of them is both a storyteller and a multi-instrumentalist, uncovering new facets of the Waits songs at the intersection of tragedy and comedy.
Their third album "Crooked Little Heart," recorded in New York City, continues their exclusive relationship with Tom Waits' songs. Years of performing in Europe and the USA, even through the restrictions of the pandemic, have deepened their appreciation for the unadulterated beauty and power of their sound.
They lovingly redefine Waits' songbook, bringing a unique female perspective to his rough characters – beat poets, hobos, drunks, cynics, and hopeless romantics are transformed, revealing their beauty and vulnerability.
